Network Security

Welcome to our security bulletin for March 2002;

W32/Gibe@MM - Virus Pretending to be a Microsoft Security Patch (8th March 2002)
This mass-mailing worm masquerades as a Microsoft Security Update patch (named Q216309.EXE) in order to dupe users into executing it.

In general do not download and install a Windows security patch from any source other than the Windows Update site or a trusted local source. The current DAT file (4189) should detect it. If you are infected then follow the instructions from the appropriate NAI webpage.
